Roosevelt Island

Roosevelt Island offers one of the most peaceful sights in all of New York. Situated between Manhattan and Queens, this 147 acre island provides the perfect place to get away from the hustle of New York City while viewing its skyline from a comfortable distance. In 1973, the name of the island was changed from Welfare Island to Roosevelt Island. During the early 20th century the island was primarily used for medicinal use, housing a number of asylums and hospitals. Today, Roosevelt Island is mainly occupied by residential areas. Those looking to explore the beauty and calm of the area will find three convenient ways to reach the island: the F train, Roosevelt Island Tramway and the Roosevelt Island Bridge.
