The University of New Orleans (UNO) offers top notch academics and athletics for its 16,000 graduate and undergraduate students. This university offers a Bachelor of Arts in 21 fields, a Bachelor of Science in 29 fields, and a Bachelor of General Studies. For graduate students, the university has 40 master's degree programs and 11 doctoral programs. The university was established in 1956 as Louisiana State University in New Orleans, the first public higher education institution in New Orleans. Since its establishment, the enrollment for the school has grown from just a few thousand students to the 16,000 students today. Nearly 10 percent of enrolled students come from 49 states and 97 countries, giving the campuses a diverse population.
The University of New Orleans also hosts NCAA Division I athletics in men's and women's basketball, baseball, men's golf, volleyball, men's and women's tennis, and women's swimming, all of which are named the Privateers.
