The Pitot House, named a Louisiana Historic Landmark, is the only Creole colonial style house open to the public in New Orleans. Pitot House was built in 1799, and had many owners throughout the nineteenth century. The most prominent owner was James Pitot, who was the first American mayor of New Orleans. Built on the historic Bayou St. John, this house provides magnificent scenery with lush greenery and beautiful gardens. The inside of the house has been masterfully restored to its early nineteenth century origins. Guests are invited to go on a tour of the house and gardens to take a step back in time. The 10,000 square foot side yard on the premises is also open for events; the yard is especially great for outdoor dinner parties, receptions, and weddings.
