The wax museum first opened its doors in 1963 and the wax exhibits were quite the hit. While you might figure those prominent figures in New Orleans history might be represented and there are a few just so that you could learn about the everyday bits of history that make the city what it is today. However, the museum also has focused on the more scintillating tidbits of scandal, the underbelly of some of the times. After all, not all of history was clean and pristine!
Some of the scandals are funny today and some outrageous but everyone agrees with one thing — it is all totally entertaining! The figures are all life-size and depicted in period clothing for authenticity and some are so lifelike you might think that they might talk back. Located on Rue Conti in New Orleans, this museum is a great place if you want something a bit different, something with a bit of spunk to it. They are open every day of the week barring any holidays like Mardi Gras. Monday to Saturday, they are open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays 12:00 Noon to 5:00 p.m. Allow for at least an hour for a tour but of course you can linger a bit and learn more about some of New Orleans history perfectly displayed in wax.
