LSU AgCenter near New Orleans, LA was started as a means to promote research programs that will help agricultural colleges as well as the entire agricultural community. Since this country was first founded, the importance of agriculture has been recognized by the government as well as the communities. It started back in the 1800s when Congress donated land to support colleges that would promote agriculture, mechanical arts and science and classical studies. To further help the research of agriculture, the Cooperative Extension Service was created in 1914.
In 1972, the LSU Agricultural Center was created under the name Center for Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development. Their goal was to make any agricultural activities separate from their other campuses and programs.
