New Orleans SportsThere are few vacation destinations that can compete with New Orleans when it comes to cool Jazz music and hot Cajun cuisine, not to mention Mardi Gras, the street party to end all street parties. But to sports fans, New Orleans means a trio of professional sports teams, as well as some exciting collegiate action when the city hosts the annual Sugar Bowl contenders. New Orleans Saints - Football Football's New Orleans Saints make their home at the Louisiana Superdome, while basketball's New Orleans Hornets play their home games right next door at the New Orleans Arena. Nearby hotels are plentiful, including several within a mile's distance away. They include Holiday Inn Downtown (1/4 mile), Quality Inn & Suites (0.5 miles) and Days Inn Canal (0.8 miles). Lodging Near Superdome Several other lodgings in the immediate area of the Superdome complex include Prince Conti Hotel (1.1 miles), Hotel St. Marie (1.23 miles), Best Western Patio Downtown Motel and Place d'Armes Hotel (both 1.5 miles), and Quality Inn Midtown (2.5 miles). New Orleans Zephyrs - Baseball If baseball is your game, then you might want to take in a New Orleans Zephyrs game. The eastern division triple-A minor league ball club plays at Zephyr Field, located just east of New Orleans near the Louis Armstrong International Airport. There are several nearby hotel accommodations, including Best Western New Orleans Inn at the Airport (3.7 miles), Quality Hotel & Conference Center (4 miles), and Best Western Landmark Hotel (5 miles). New Orleans College Sports College sports abound, with teams from Tulane and LSU leading the pack in popularity. Once a year, New Orleans hosts the Sugar Bowl, a sporting event that pits collegiate football giants against each other. The Sugar Bowl is yet another attraction hosted by the Superdome. While ballpark hotdogs are a far cry from the Creole delicacies you are apt to find in the French Quarter, the decidedly America pastimes of baseball and football offer the familiar comforts of your own hometown, no matter where you may be visiting. New Orleans' centrally-located sporting arenas are a must-see, even if you're not a dyed-in-the-wool sports enthusiast. Their proximity to such a large selection of lodging facilities make them a convenient stop for vacationers and traveling business people alike. |
