Discover the mystery and magic of the Creole people that made the French Quarter their own.

New Orleans is rich with history and Fair Grounds Racetrack is no exception for its contribution to the history story. You will feel the interesting history of this track as you walk around these 145 acres. From 1852 when it began as Union Race Course, to present day this property has been trampled on not only by the horses always ready to run but also by civil war soldiers when it became a Confederate Army Camp. It has survived the Civil War, Reconstruction and The Great Depression to become a major player in the racing industry.

New Orleans Fairgrounds Race Track

The Fairgrounds Racetrack live racing season begins November 25th and ends March 27th. Twice each racing season, Fair Grounds hosts a "Family Day" by setting up a mini carnival where everything is free and kids of all ages are welcome to come. When the season is over there is always simulcast racing available. When you get hungry, you will find concessions throughout the Grandstand and there is a restaurant in the Clubhouse.
