ROADS AND HIGHWAYS Navigating New Orleans is an adventure. The city starts out at a bend in the river and the streets branch outward from there. The city is easy to get to; Interstate Highway 10, Highway 59, and Highway 55 run through town. AIRPORT The area airport is Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (airport code: MSY) and is located in Kenner, approximately 15 minutes from New Orleans. There are seven automobile rental agencies located on-site at the airport. SHUTTLES , STREETCARS & BUS SERVICE Shuttle service is available from the airport to the hotels in the Central Business District. Airport Limousine Service is available with non scheduled walk up and limo and sedan service available to the Central Business District and the French Quarter. The limousine information desks are located on the lower-level of the airport in the baggage claim area. One of the most popular ways of getting around town are the streetcars. You can board them at many stops and you can get visitor passes for a very reasonable price. The visitor passes will allow you to ride the streetcars as much as you would like. The bus system is a very inexpensive and easy way to get around New Orleans. Bus routes go throughout the entire city and only cost $1 plus 10 cents per transfer. Express buses cost extra. Taxi cabs are available throughout the city and are reasonably priced, usually around $2.10 plus $1.00 each additional mile. AND POSSIBLY THE BEST WAY TO GET AROUND... Walking to get around town is very common in New Orleans. When the weather is nice, walking is a healthy and cost-effective means of transportation. Combine walking with the streetcars and you can get almost anywhere. |
