Experience the Cemeteries & Voodoo of New Orleans
Cemetary & Gris Gris Walking Tour
This tour will take you through the most haunted cemetery in New Orleans, and possibly the world.
There's one place in America where you won't have to wait until Halloween for the thrills and chills you want. In New Orleans you'll hear spine tingling tales and maybe even experience some of the supernatural phenomena that have given this city the distinction of being called "America's Most Haunted City." Many of the beautifully designed homes and buildings from the 17th, , 18th and 19th centuries hold more than just your average historical significance. Many of these structures are said to be haunted and some of these haunts have even been validated by a parapsychologist.
Begin your visit to New Orleans with a trip through some of the most haunted areas of the city, the cemeteries. With the Cemetery and Gris Gris Walking Tour you'll learn about the above-ground burial system of the city during your visit to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, the most haunted cemetery in New Orleans. You'll hear the story of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau who is buried here and maybe even get a visit from one of the "residents" of the cemetery. The Ghosts and Spirits Walking Tour will take you on a spine-tingling journey of the city where you'll visit spirits from all walks of the "after-life" including Julie from the Cup Tearoom and the three inhabitants of O'Flaherty's Pub. The City/Cemetery Tour Haunted New Orleans Hotels For a spooky stay there are several haunted hotels in New Orleans that are sure to keep you awake all night or at the very least make you sleep with a light on. The Hotel Monteleone on Royal Street is one such hotel. Here you'll get the opportunity to meet ghostly figures such as Red, a faithful engineer; William Wildemer, a guest believed to have died in the hotel and a ten year-old boy who roams the hotel playing hide and seek. At LePavillon Hotel on Poydras Street you could run into one of the four spirits who live there including a teenage girl from the 19th century, a young aristocratic couple from the 20's and a gentleman who often chooses hotel cleaning staff to be the brunt of his pranks and jokes. A stay in Cottage No. 4 at Hotel Maison de Ville will give you a whole new appreciation for country music. The permanent resident of this cottage is a ghost in military garb, who has a love of country music and will often change the radio station to suit him.
Hotels aren't the only place you'll run into the eternal residents of New Orleans, however. At Brennan's Restaurant employees seem to take their jobs very seriously. So seriously, that they never leave, even after their death. Three ghosts at the restaurant have been identified by paranormal psychologists as Percy, a slave who was a caretaker here; Paul Blange, a Dutch chef who was very devoted to the restaurant and Herman Funk, the restaurant's former wine master. Muriel's Restaurant serves up more than just food. Three spirits roam the restaurant including the first owner of the property, Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan, who committed suicide in the building in 1814. Le Petit Theatre de Vieux Carre is well-known as the oldest community theatre in America and also as home to three spectral inhabitants. Caroline is believed to have been an actress at the theatre in 1927 and Sigmund is a former stage carpenter. The Captain was an audience member who was in love with an actress at the theatre and has been seen by the actors as they perform. New Orleans is known as "The City That Care Forgot" and this may reach past the cares of the living and into the cares of those long dead. Whether a skeptic or a firm believer, you're sure to enjoy the spooky adventures of the city and perhaps something or someone will find a way to turn your skepticism into belief. The only way to find out is to visit New Orleans and some of its most haunted sites to see if you'll experience any of the eerie incidents that make this the most haunted city in America! |
