During the Civil War General John Bell Hood's Confederate Army built five different small forts on the countryside just south of Nashville in December of 1864. Redoubt No. 1 was one of those five small forts and was located at the far left of the confederate line.
These forts were built to give citizen soldiers a sense of security and later became a common feature of the war. On December 15th, the first day of the Battle of Nashville, the U.S. Army attacked all five forts, and the redoubt No. 1 was the last to fall. This historic site, preserved by The Battle of Nashville Preservation Society, is one of the last remaining sites of the great Battle of Nashville.
