The Nashville Portraits at Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, TN
From May 11th through September 9th in 2007, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, Tennessee, drew thousands of local visitors and tourists to the museum with their acclaimed "Nashville Portraits" exhibit. This photography exhibit featured 60 black and white portraits of the country's most celebrated country music artists. Jim McGuire, the photographer, displayed moving photos of musicians such as Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Bill Monroe and Johnny Cash.
Jim McGuire is well known for his talents in portraiture, and he is loved and appreciated for his ability to humanize celebrity subjects. Â McGuire grew up in New Jersey, but he moved to Nashville at the beginning of his career due to his love for country music. Though this exhibit displayed only 60 of his photographs, he has taken over one thousand portraits for his full "Nashville Portraits" series. This specific exhibit is no longer on display, but the Frist Center always is showing photographs from talented Nashville artists.
