Skilled as a vocalist, musician, and songwriter, Vince Gill is regarded by many of Grand Ole Opry fans as one of most talented artists in country music. The music industry itself has noticed, as Gill currently holds the record for more Country Music Association Awards than any other artist in history, as well as the record for the most Grammy Awards received by a male country artist.

Background and Early Career

  • Vince Gill was born April 12, 1957 in Norman, Oklahoma, where he learned to play guitar and banjo at an early age. After graduating high school, Gill began playing with several bluegrass bands, including the successful Pure Prairie League. In 1983, he signed with RCA Records for the release of his debut album, Turn Me Loose.
  • In 1989, Gill switched to MCA Records and released "When I Call Your Name" in what would be the first of many hits. In addition to his musical endeavors, Gill also spends a significant amount of time working for charitable causes, which has earned him the honors of the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award and Tennessean of the Year.

Grand Ole Opry Induction

  • Vince Gill was formally inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on August 10, 1991, the same year his Pocket Full of Gold album was released.

Vince Gill at the Opry

  • Gill is a frequent performer on the Grand Ole Opry stage, and in fact hosts a video history that is played at the Grand Ole Opry House before each show. In recent years, Gill's daughter Jenny and wife, Christian/pop star Amy Grant, have joined him in performing at the Opry. Want to know when you can hear Gill's piercing tenor pipes? Grand Ole Opry Country Music Show - Nashville
We loved the Opry, it was awesome, just disappointed that Jimmy Dickens was unable to perform when he was one of the performers we really wanted to see, maybe next time!

Grand Ole Opry Country Music Show - Nashville
I would have liked to see more current artists. A lot of the ones that performed were unknown to me, however, the entertainment was still wonderful and it was kind of thrilling to be a part of the radio show. I would definitely go again.
