Intrigued by the guitar at an early age, Steve Wariner was playing in his father's band by the time he was 10, and he continues his music today as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Born December 25, 1954 in Indiana, Steve has found success as both a singer and songwriter.

Background and Early Career

  • Steve was touring with Dottie West's band by the time he was 17. At 24, was taken on as a protégé for Chet Atkins, who recognized Steve's abilities.
  • Steve's career has certainly seen highs and lows. He was released from his contract with Arista Records a few years after signing with them in 1991, but joined the Opry in 1996 and again had a No. 1 hit in 1998.
  • Prior to him being at Arista, Steve was signed with MCA Nashville, and had 18 singles become Top 10 hits; eight of them reached No. 1.

Grand Ole Opry Induction

  • Fulfilling a life-long dream, Steve was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on May 11, 1996. His parents, Roy and Ilene, wife Caryn, and sons Ryan and Ross were all in the audience to share the moment with him.

Seating was good, lighting was good, acoustics were good. Show was fast-paced. Nice mix of new and more seasoned acts. Brother-in-law with seeing problems was able to see.
