A true-blue country traditionalist, Randy Travis keeps the Grand Ole Opry close to its roots. His earthy baritone voice helped revitalize country music in the 1980s, and his influence is felt even today.

Background and Early Career

  • Though he dropped out of ninth-grade, and spent the first part of his life dabbling in fighting, alcohol, drugs, and petty crime, Randy had a life-changing experience after winning a talent contest in North Carolina and starting a music career. He paid his dues in North Carolina for 5 more years and then went to Music City.
  • Randy found anything but immediate success. He was turned down by every label in town and worked as a short-order cook at the Nashville Palace, where he would occasionally take off his apron and sing a song for the customers. He finally found success in 1985.

Grand Ole Opry Induction

  • Randy was "discovered" practically across the street at the Nashville Palace, and he became a full-fledged Opry member on December 20, 1986.

The seats were great. We actually purchased seats for the first show too the week before we left from ticketmaster but the seats weren't that good. We all loved the show and can't wait to see another one someday.

Ordered tix for Opry --sent note with order that I was bringing my 85 year mom and if possible could seats reflect her age. Seats were EXCELLENT. On main floor, aisle seat and right in line with stage. She enjoyed the show and the seats made all the difference since she didn't have to maneuver stairs, etc. Thank you again!!!!!!!!
