This Nashville star got an early start and was hanging out backstage at the Opry at the young age of 16. Patty Loveless has endeared herself to the Nashville community and country fans everywhere. Her haunting vocals and ability to sing in almost any genre shows how deep her talent runs. This Opry member is in it for the long hall and is still one of the foremost female vocalists in country music.

Background and Early Career

  • Patty's dad gave her her first guitar at age 11, and she has been playing ever since. Born to a coal mining family in Kentucky, Patty always dreamed of making it big in the singing world.

  • Around that same time Patty began performing with Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton on weekends. She also sang with Wilburn Brothers' band.
  • In 1987 Patty returned to Nashville after a break from singing and was signed with MCA/Nashville Records. That was the beginning of a long and illustrious career.

Grand Ole Opry Induction

  • Patty's friend and long time supporter Porter Wagoner inducted her as a Grand Ole Opry member on June 11, 1988. She then sang her hit song "If My Heart Had Windows", which had previously been recorded by fellow Opry member George Jones.

Grand Ole Opry Country Music Show - Nashville
It was fun but most of the performers were really old-timers and their voices were not the best. The seats were good and the crowd lent a good atmosphere.

The weekend lineup of performers is probably always going to be better than on Tuesday, but it was still delightful! We also thoroughly enjoyed the FREE Opryland Museum across the street ... as well as good eating in the large mall.

The final 2 acts, Jimmy Dickens and Mel Tilles, were fantastic. I felt that the announcer who was supposed to 'warm the audience up' was not the best choice for that particular job.
