Grammy-winner and Grand Ole Opry member Jeannie Seely has left an unforgettable mark on country music with a soul-filled voice that blends country and blues in a way no other woman before her had. In addition to the music, Seely made great strides at the Grand Ole Opry itself by leading the push to allow women to host segments of the show. Jeannie herself now frequently serves as segment host on the show.

Background and Early Career

  • Jeannie Seely was born July 6, 1940 in Titusville, Pennsylvania, and was performing on stage and on the radio from an early age. Early adulthood took Seely to Los Angeles, but at the urging of friend and country star Dottie West, Seely moved to Nashville, where she was signed to Monument Records. In 1966, Seely's first hit, "Don't Touch Me," landed at Number 1 on the country music charts.
  • Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she continued to enjoy spectacular success in country music, and earned the nickname "Miss Country Soul" for her blues-tinged vocals. Today, she is a frequent performer on the Grand Ole Opry, and also is active in Nashville's local theater scene.

Grand Ole Opry Induction

  • Jeannie Seely was inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on September 16, 1967.

Grand Ole Opry Country Music Show - Nashville
It was nice, but we enjoyed the General Jackson music just as well, if not more. We would have liked to have seen more of Mark Lowery and guests.

We were so glad that we got to see the Opry at the Ryman. What an experience! Beautiful building. We took a tour earlier in the day and learned about the history. Very interesting. The show we saw was superb. Everyone in Nashville is so friendly.
