At the urging of Ernest Tubb in the 1960s, Grand Ole Opry member Jack Greene set out on a solo career that would produce nine hits that would reach Billboard's country Top 5 in a span of three years. Greene still lives in Music City, and continues to be an active member of the Opry.

Background and Early Career

  • Jack Greene was born January 7, 1930 in Maryville, Tennessee. The Opry member was playing guitar by the time he was 10 years old, and began working at a radio station during his teenage years. "The Jolly Greene Giant" worked in Knoxville and Atlanta before joining Ernest Tubb & the Texas Troubadours in 1962.
  • After a few years, Tubb encouraged Greene to pursue a career on his own, and by 1967 Greene's "There Goes My Everything" had helped him take home CMA honors for Male Vocalist of the Year, Single of the Year, and Album of the Year.

Grand Ole Opry Induction

  • Jack Greene was inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on December 23, 1967.

Was a terrific show to see (our first time) ... even though we didn't know any of the performers! Had good seats on the floor. Everyone should see the Opry!

Our seats were very close to the stage - we couldn't have asked for better seats. It was such a treat to see Pam Tillis and Emmy Lou Harris. A wonderful evening.
