Bringing some of the most beautiful harmony found in country music, the Gatlin Brothers have perfected this sound over a career that has spanned more than 40 years. Comprised of three brothers, Larry, Steve, and Rudy, the brothers have been performing as a group since childhood; they won their first contest in 1954.

Background and Early Career

  • Larry's songwriting career began in 1971 when the Opry's Dottie West discovered him singing in Las Vegas. She provided him a ticket to Nashville, and his songs have been recorded by herself, as well as Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley.
  • The Gatlin Brothers officially became a group in 1979, though his brothers were already singing on Larry's albums. During the 1980s, the brothers achieved 15 Top 40 hits.

Grand Ole Opry Induction

  • Even though they were not yet officially titled, the Gatlin Brothers were inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on Christmas Day in 1976.

Gatlin Brothers at the Opry

  • Though the brothers relocated to Branson, MO in 1993 to open their own theater, they still visit the Opry on occasion. Want to know when they will take the stage? Visit the VME Grand Ole Opry Blog for a schedule of upcoming performances.

We were so glad that we got to see the Opry at the Ryman. What an experience! Beautiful building. We took a tour earlier in the day and learned about the history. Very interesting. The show we saw was superb. Everyone in Nashville is so friendly.
