Alison Krauss has brought fantastic vocals and musicianship to the Grand Ole Opry stage.  Inducted in 1993 at the age of 21, she has brought with her the talented members of her band, Union Station. Though certainly recognized for her bluegrass style, this Illinois native has contributed as either a vocalist or instrumentalist to every genre of music, including pop, jazz, polka, and country.

Background and Early Career

  • Born July 23, 1971 in Decatur, Illinois, Alison actually grew up in Champaign. She began studying violin at age 5, and by age 16 had released her first album. Two years later, in 1989, she introduced her band, Union Station. They made bluegrass sales history with the 1995 release of Now That I've Found You: A Collection, which was certified platinum after selling more than 2 million copies.
  • Her 1990 solo album, I've Got That Old Feeling, peaked in the top 75 on the Country chart, and earned her her first Grammy Award.

Grand Ole Opry Induction

  • At the time of her induction in 1993, she was the first bluegrass artist to become am Opry member in 29 years. Now in her mid-30s, she was only 21 when she was inducted, and was the youngest cast member at the time.

Having the opportunity of seeing the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium was a wonderful experience! Getting to see many of the country music legends and having the opporunity of paying homage to their contributions to music is an experience that I will not forget.

Fantastic show, wonderful experience. It was great to see new and old entertainers, Jimmy Dickens at 87 can still get you clapping away. The fun part is the advertising at each interval!!
