If you're looking for things to do in Nashville, try some of their most famous spots for some great fun! When visiting the Grand Ole Opry, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Musuem, the General Jackson Showboat on the Cumberland River, Guided Tours of Nashville, and shopping at Opry Mills, you're sure to see what this tourist attracting city is all about.

Grand Ole Opry in Nashville

  • Nashville beckons to the fans of Country and Bluegrass Music, so it goes without saying that no trip to Nashville would be complete without a visit to the Grand Ole Opry.
  • The current Opry House is actually the fifth home to this venerable old radio show, which first aired in 1925 and has aired continuously since then. As studio audiences swelled, so did the necessity to move into larger quarters.
  • So while a visit to the Opry may not take you back to its historic beginnings, you're sure to see history in the making as the next generation of country music stars, superstars and possibly even legends perform for you daily.

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville

  • Another country music mecca is the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Its permanent collection, called "Sing Me Back Home", is an self-paced, interactive, multimedia tour through Country Music's history, from its roots in the 19th century through the present. The collection contains a vast wealth of artifacts, photos, and original audio and video recordings, augmented by newly recorded material and touchscreen exhibits to further enhance your experience. Ending in the Hall of Fame Rotunda, the exhibit will take your breath away and give you a renewed appreciation for this wholly American art form.

General Jackson Showboat on the Cumberland River

  • Nashville was founded in 1779 when a group of pioneers settled on the banks of the Cumberland River and constructed Fort Nashborough. To this day, a good deal of Nashville's activity still revolves around life on that river. Steamboats have always been popular river conveyances because of their relatively flat bottoms.
  • Today, you can take a variety of tours on these vessels. The historic 300-foot long General Jackson Showboat offers lunch and dinner cruises, a show and some wonderful sightseeing up and down the Cumberland.

Guided Tours of Nashville

If you prefer to do your sightseeing from the window of a motorcoach, try one of these road tours:

Shopping at Opry Mills in Nashville

  • For a taste of the familiar, but with a decidedly Nashville flavor, stop in at Opry Mills. With over a hundred stores to choose from, dozens of eateries and a 20-screen movie theater, it can easily become your home away from home in between visits to some of the more spectacular attractions.

Nashville's diverse offering of culture, entertainment and hospitality make it an ideal vacation destination for singles, couple and families who want to experience true Americana but also enjoy the high energy of an emerging modern day metropolis.

General Jackson Showboat Lunch & Dinner Cruises
I only got the cruise part and not the show...however, next time I think I will do the cruise and the lunch...no show - because the show is inside and you don't get to see the beautiful lake and the scenery if you are inside on the boat watching the show...very relaxing!
