The Band Perry At Grand Ole Opry
The country-pop trio consisting of siblings Kimberly, Neil and Reid Perry first began their musical career together in 2005. Kimberly, as the oldest, originally sang in her own band and had her brothers working as roadies. When Neil and Reid were eight and ten years old respectively, they formed their own duo band, the Mobile Music Machines, and opened for their sister. It wasn’t until 2005 that they joined together under The Band Perry. In that year, they joined the New Faces of Country tour. Three years later, Bob Doyle, manager of Garth Brooks, noticed their original style, mixing the classic sounds of country with a little bit of rock, soul and gospel, and sent them to the Republic Nashville label to sign a contract.
The band’s first single was released in 2009. “Hip to My Heart” landed the Number Twenty spot on the country charts. Following their debut song, “If I Die Young,” written single-handedly by Kimberly herself, soared to the Number One spot on the country music chart and to Number Fourteen on the Billboard Hot 100. Their songs “You Lie,” “All Your Life” and “Postcard from Paris” all found themselves in the Top 10, as well.
Since just 2010, the band of siblings has been nominated and has received numerous awards. They have been nominated for the CMA Vocal Group of the Year three times, have won the Academy of Country Music Awards’ Top New Vocal Duo or Group and Top New Artist awards, as well as the CMA New Artist of the Year and both Single and Song of the Year for “If I Die Young,” and the CMT Music Awards’ USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year for “If I Die Young” and the Nationwide Insurance On Your Side Award.
The band has just one CD out, a self-titled album that has reached Platinum status in the U.S. and that has landed the Numbers Two and Four spots on the U.S. Country and U.S. charts. Their song “If I Die Young” has reached Platinum four times, while “You Lie” and “All Your Life” have both reached Gold status. The band started working on their second album, which will feature their single “Better Dig Two,” in mid-2012.
