Sarah Zimmermann and Justin Davis may never have gotten to where they are now had their professor at Belmont University not randomly paired them together in a classroom filled with guitar majors. However, Zimmerman, from Philadelphia, and Davis, from Atlanta, have been writing and performing together ever since that fateful day, under the name Striking Matches.
The duo has listed a wide range of artists as influences to their sound, from Jerry Reed to the Beatles and from John Mayer to Patsy Cline. Their self-titled debut EP album was released in October of 2012, all co-written by the two of them and produced by Luke Wooten, who has worked with artists like Dierks Bentley and Dustin Lynch.
Their song “When the Right One Comes Along” was used in the new hit show from ABC Nashville. In December of 2012, Striking Matches made their debut appearance on the Grand Ole Opry stage, proving that they have come a long way since their guitar class in college.
