The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has had a huge influence on country music, and have been credited as one of the major drivers of the country-rock and American roots music movements. The bands original line up met and began playing in Long Beach California. They began with a folksy sound that gradually changed to incorporate more country and rock elements. The band's current lineup is Jeff Hanna on guitars and vocals; Jimmie Fadden on drums, harmonica, and vocals; John McEuen on banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar; and Bob Carpenter on keyboards, accordion, and vocals.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has made multiple platinum and gold albums and a string of No. 1 hits including “Modern Day Romance,” “Fishin' in the Dark,” and 'Baby's Got a Hold on Me.” Their groundbreaking album May the Circle Be Unbroken has been inducted into the Library of Congress and the Grammy Hall of Fame. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's famous recording of “Mr. Bojangles” is honored in the Grammy Hall of Fame as well. The group has played to large crowds at festivals across the country and are frequent guests at the Grand Ole Opry. The band has won three Grammy awards and have won Album of the Year at the CMAs and Best Recorded Event from the IBMA.
