George Strait At Grand Ole Opry

If you’re a fan of country music, you’ve no doubt heard of George Strait. Strait has been active in the country music community since the early 80s and has been referred to as the “King of Country” and as a living legend. Born in May of 1952 in Poteet, Texas, Strait has nearly sixty Number One hit singles and a variety of esteemed awards to his name. Strait’s love of country music came while he attended high school and played in a rock and roll garage band. In the 80s, he was signed with MCA Records and his first single reached the Top 10 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

“Unwound,” his first single, reached Number Six on the charts and was followed by a string of successful singles, including his fifty-nine Number One hits. He has topped the chart with songs like “Fool Hearted Memory,” “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” “Love Without End, Amen,” “I Cross My Heart,” “Easy Come, Easy Go,” “Check Yes or No,” “Carried Away,” “Round About Way,” “Write This Down,” “The Best Day,” “She’ll Leave You with a Smile,” “Give It Away” and “I Saw God Today.”
Currently, Strait still holds the record for the most Number One albums, Gold-certified albums, Platinum albums and Multi-Platinum albums in the history of country music. He has twenty-two CMA awards, holds the record for most CMA and ACM awards and has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.  In 2011, he was named the Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music.
Strait has also appeared in several films, including The Soldier, in which he played himself. He also starred in Pure Country in 1992 and made a guest vocal appearance on the show King of the Hill in 2003.
