Born in November of 1964 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, jazz, pop and bossa nova artist Diana Krall has been performing music since she was a child. By the time she was four, she was playing piano and, before she was sixteen years old, was playing jazz at a local restaurant. In 1993, Krall released her first album Stepping Out.
Throughout the following years, Krall released ten studio albums, nine of which were certified Gold or higher in Canada and/or the United States. Her latest album, Glad Rag Doll, was released in October of 2012.
In 1999, her album When I Look in Your Eyes, became an international bestseller and earned her a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance. In 2001, her album The Look of Love gained Krall recognition as the first Canadian jazz artist to reach a multi-platinum milestone in sales. The following year, she was awarded three Juno Awards: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Vocal Jazz Album of the Year for The Look of Love.
In 2000, Krall was awarded the Order of British Columbia. Three years later, she was given an honorary Ph.D. in Fine Arts from the University of Victoria. The next year, 2004, she was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame. In 2005, she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 2008, the Nanaimo Harbourfront Plaza was renamed the Diana Krall Plaza. She is also an honorary board member of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
