Desert Rose Band At Grand Ole Opry

With a country and country rock sound, the Desert Rose Band was formed in the mid-1980s by Chris Hillman, Herb Pederson and John Jorgenson. Also in the original lineup of the band was Billy Bryson on bass guitar, Jay Dee Maness on pedal steel guitar and Steve Duncan on drums. The band released their first album in 1987 with MCA/Curb Records.

The first hit released by the band was their rendition of Johnnie & Jack’s song “Ashes of Love.” This was the second time that Hillman and Pederson had recorded the song; they originally sang it on Hillman’s prior album, Desert Rose. The debut album also featured a remake of Hillman’s song “Time Between” and “He’s Back and I’m Blue,” the band’s first Number One hit. The next albums released by the band included singles like “She Don’t Love Nobody,” “Running,” “Desert Rose” and “Our Baby’s Gone.” The band, in 1988, released their second Number One hit with “I Still Believe in You.' The band has won three awards from the Academy of Country Music Awards and several nominations from both the Country Music Association and the Grammys.
In 1991, Jorgenson and Duncan left the band to move onto the band the Hellecasters. Hillman and Pederson went on to release an acoustic album in 2005 and still work as an acoustic duo. In 2008, the band joined together on stage for their first reunion concert in California. They announced in 2010 that they would be performing more reunion shows throughout the United States.
