Cape Romain Lighthouses near Myrtle Beach, SC

5821 Hwy 17 N Awendaw, , SC 29429
These lighthouses are some of the most unique on the South Carolina shoreline.

The first, built in 1827, was a 65 foot red brick tower. It is the oldest standing lighthouse of its kind left in the United States. In 1857 this tower was replaced with a more advanced lighthouse. Sadly this newer lighthouse was ruined in the Civil War. That didn't keep the area leaders from rebuilding though. The tower was again replaced. The tower is now over 150 feet tall and one of the most beautiful historic sites in the area.
