Located in the Sand Flats Recreation Area, the Slickrock Bike Trail is one of the most famous trails in the country for its great combination of challenging riding and beautiful scenery. Made of Navajo sandstone laid down during the Jurassic period 200 million years ago, the undulating trail consists of domes and mounds leading in a continuous uphill direction, and is marked by white dashes with intersections, points of interest, and caution zones indicated in yellow paint.
Visitors are cautioned that the trail is technically demanding and should be attempted only by experienced cyclists. A two-mile practice loop is available for novices who want to learn how to ride on slickrock. Originally designed for motorcycle use, the trail is now open to both motorbikes and pedal bikes.
