Visitors to Goblin Valley State Park will think they've been beamed up to Mars. Hundreds of fantastical goblin-like natural sculptures welcome travelers to this delightful yet unearthly expanse of desert. Carved out of rock by wind and water, the bulbous, oddly-shaped rock formations have been smoothed over by time, and many have small holes that give them eerily human features.
The numerous rocks and coves provide unlimited opportunities for walking or hiking, and the flat open terrain makes it easy for anyone to explore. Photographers will be in paradise amidst the hidden coves and haunting backdrop of the intricately eroded rocks, while history buffs can search for traces of early Indians, miners, and ranchers. A wonderful place for families with younger kids, the park also has a campground and pavilion with picnic tables, barbecue grills, a play area, and modern bathrooms. The park is open twenty-four hours a day year round.
