Fisher Towers is one of the most awe-inspiring and recognizable features along the Colorado River, and has understandably attracted many filmmakers over the years. The only remains of a 225-million-year-old flood plain deposit, visitors often marvel at the layers of brown, purple, and maroon sedimentary rock, the lowest part of which was formed over 290 million years ago.
The 900-foot-tall Titan is the taller of the two sandstone monoliths and is a continuous draw for climbers. For those who wish to stay firmly planted on the ground, a hiking trail winds along the base of the towers and offers incredible views of the towers, the surrounding valleys, and the Colorado River. A small campground nestled at the base of the towers welcomes travelers and provides a pleasant spot from which to view the spectacular sunset. State Route 128, near Moab, UT.
