The most famous landmark in Arches National Park, Delicate Arch is a massive free-standing sandstone arch perched precariously on the edge of a small canyon. Visitors can reach the arch by following an exciting 1.5 mile hiking trail that starts at Wolfe Ranch, crosses a creek via a swaying suspension bridge, and leads across smooth exposed slickrock. Not visible from the trail, Delicate Arch suddenly looms in front of hikers as they round the final corner.
The slightly strenuous trail takes more than an hour each way but provides a spectacular payoff. Besides the arch, the end of the trail offers amazing views across the multi-colored landscape to the snow-covered peaks of the La Sal mountains.
