The fascinating history of Moab is carefully preserved at the Dan O'Laurie Museum, which tells the story of the town and surrounding areas from prehistoric times to the explorations of Spanish missionaries. Highlights of the Museum are many, from massive dinosaur bones to Ute Indian artifacts to photos and objects from the Moab pioneer days. Most notably, the Museum houses prehistoric tools, textiles, pottery, jewelry, and rock art left behind in the earthen pit houses of ancient populations.
The Mining and Mineralogy exhibit traces Moab's long mining history, features an extensive display of rocks, minerals, and historic mining tools, and includes a hands-on testing area for the identification of minerals. On the upper level, visitors will find a historic hospital room and a turn-of-the-century kitchen and home interior, as well as a restored player piano that kids will love to try out.
