Spread out along three different routes on Highways 128 and 279 and Kane Creek Road, the Colorado Riverway Recreation Area is a scenic wonderland of colorful cliffs, canyons, bottom lands, and spires. The many natural and man-made attractions include Castle Rock, Fisher Towers, sandstone arches, sheer cliffs, Indian petroglyphs, and dinosaur tracks. For a fun detour, adventurers should stroll across the one-lane suspension bridge that was built in 1916 and that is still open to foot traffic and bicycles.
Visitors have plenty of options for physical activity as the Riverway is full of hiking, mountain biking, and ATV trails for every skill level. From late spring to early fall, river running activities are available on the Colorado River. Rafting, kayaking, and canoeing offer exciting adventures on the rapids from Onion Creek to Big Bend as well as tamer rides in calmer waters. Picnic facilities are available at Lion's Park, Big Bend Recreation Site, and Hittle Bottom along Highway 128.
