Traveling to Moab: Tips on How to Get ThereMoab is located in Grand County in east Utah. It can be found about 233 miles southeast of Salt Lake City and 354 miles west of Denver. Moab is just off I-70 and at the intersection of Route 191 and State 128. Why is Moab, Utah such a popular location? Though there is some shopping and sightseeing, the most attractive features of the area are the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. There are also Moab events such as the yearly Jeep Safari in Moab and the Slickrock Trail, located nearby which attracts mountain bikers. There is plenty to see and do in Moab. The question is how should you get to this rich green city? What is the most efficient way to travel? One of the easiest ways to travel is to rent a car and drive the distance. Some of the advantages of driving include more control (a definite plus for experienced drivers who don't like to count on others) and the ability to make frequent stops. This is certainly a disadvantage of taking the bus, which only stops at selected locations. Enterprise Rent-A-Car runs a good deal on Utah car rentals, and offers savings of up to 50% on weekends. When you rent a vehicle from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, you also have the option of picking up an SUV or a van, which can be very helpful if you have a lot of luggage. Some buses are now limiting luggage pieces to one item for carry on and one checked bag. Airlines similarly limit the number of bags you can bring aboard a flight. When you take a car or an SUV, you get as much room as you can arrange for in your trunk or back seats. Moab City does not actually have a regular bus service at this point in time, though it does count charter and shuttle services to areas such as Salt Lake City or Grand Junction. The Bighorn Express is one of the mini-bus services providing transportation from the Salt Lake City Airport to Moab every day; however, unlike most bus lines, Bighorn requires a reservation. The closest Greyhound location is found in Green River and Crescent Junction on I-70, about 30 miles northeast of the city. Airport transportation is available Canyonlands Field, by way of Skywest Airlines. There are also charter flights available to travel to various smaller towns in the Utah and Colorado area. There is also an Amtrak Train Station found in Green River about 52 miles northwest of the city. Other companies offering Moab transportation include the Moab Adventure Center, Moab, Arches and Canyonlands, River to Rim and Redtail Aviation. Not only do these services provide transportation around the Moab area they also offer tourists scenic flight and or riding tours. How do you get to Moab, Utah, if you are driving from out of town? Just remember that the city is located on Highway 191, south of I-70 in the southeastern part of Utah. Moab is a naturalistic and scenic city that will keep you excited about exploration and tourism. It's convenient location and relaxing drive coming to and from the area provide for one very enjoyable family vacation. |
