The Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is located on Easter River Road, though you are likely to notice it from farther away. The first thing that visitors notice about this building is its design and true artistic flare which is characterized in the structural design of it. The building itself is known throughout the region, and is perhaps one of the most well known elements in the Twin Cities. The building was designed by Frank Gehry. He designed and built the building in 1993 and it has been the talk of the town since then with its whimsical, flamboyant design.
Inside the museum you will find some amazing pieces just as unique and as treasured. The collection is mostly that of 20th century items. The museum boasts the largest collection of works by the well known artists Marsden Hartley and Alfred Maurer. It has a large and impressive collection by the artist Georgia O'Keefe as well. It includes both prints and paintings from these artists. Additional pieces are available to be seen by artists Robert Motherwell and Arthur Dove.
According to the New York Times, the rooms that you can view the collections and pieces in are possibly the best five rooms for art viewing in the world. This stunning compliment is perhaps the best way to describe all that this unique building has to offer.
Visitors to the Weisman Art Museum are welcomed throughout the week, at various times. Call prior to visiting for operating hours. Private parties and tours can be arranged in advance.
