The Underwater Adventures Aquarium under the
Mall of America in Minneapolis, MN promotes itself as the largest underground aquarium. The Discovery Channel has called it the World's Best Shark Encounter. There are 4,500 sharks and other sea creatures in the Underwater Adventures Aquarium.
Aquarium hours are Monday to Thursday 10 am to 8 pm, Friday and Saturday 9:30 am to 8:30 pm and Sunday 10 am to 6:30 pm. On special days, like Thanksgiving, there are special hours.
Events held by the aquarium vary. Some events that either have been held or are being held include Creepy Crawly Corner, Family Halloween Overnight, Sharks After Dark, and Glass Sea Treasures of Harvard.
Creepy Crawly Corner gives guests the chance to stick their heads in the Creep Crate. Family Halloween Night is a spooky night in the tunnel where guests get to sleep with the sharks. Scary games, stories and candy are also provided.
Sharks After Dark begins at 7 pm and has live music or DJs. The Glass Sea Treasures of Harvard event is educational and teaches people how these creatures played an important role in the development of modern scientific thought.
There are also several extreme adventures that include swimming with the sharks, feeding the sharks, and The Plunge, a virtual reality thrill ride.
Children under two are free. Children three to 12 pay an admission of $9.95. Adults, meaning in this case those 13 years old and older, pay $16.95. There are group rates and annual memberships available as well.
The Underwater Adventures Aquarium hosts adventure camps, home school programs, outreach programs, and programs for teachers.
