The vision of two contemporary art patrons became reality with the establishment of the Louvre It Or Leave It Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Gary and JoAnn Fink's efforts to spread the word about the importance of art in our lives resulted not only in a wonderful collection but also in a fascinating museum located on a busy street in this Midwest city.
For those unfamiliar with this unique museum, the quality and breadth of the collection is a pleasant surprise. The building and its location give no indication that such a treasure of the art world exists at this particular spot. The Fink's have gathered works from some of the true pioneers and leaders in art, but they also strive to feature great work from lesser known artists. Gary Fink is sometimes available to guide visitors through the collection, an added treat for those seeking a great experience in the art world.
The "seed" works for this fine museum were gifts from Gary and JoAnn Fink to a family foundation. The administrators of this foundation decided to open a museum to highlight the art. The family continues to fund museum purchases. While there is no central theme to the museum, the items on display represent art work that is significant to the Fink's. Included in the collection are oil paintings and water colors, ceramics, bronze, lithographs and photography. Student work is often an important part of the museum collection.
