Minneapolis Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis, MN
Minneapolis has some interesting sights to see and perhaps one of the most intriguing and most fun is the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. It's on Vineland Place which is just across from the Walker Art Center. It's part of a joint venture with the Parks and Recreation Board as well as the Art Center. Minneapolis definitely got a great deal with this collaboration because the Sculpture Garden is a fun time viewing the interesting pieces as well as lovely landscaping to walk through.
The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden has had a varied history as it once was part of the gardens of a former National Guard Armory. The gardens are 11 acres full of wonderful and sometimes whimsical works of art by both international and American artists interspersed in various settings like landscaping, plazas and walkways. One of the most eye-catching displays today has got to be the "colossal Spoonbridge and Cherry Fountain." It is literally a spoon with a cherry on it. Other notable sights include the stainless steel arbor supporting various plantings and flowers and a large standing glass fish.
The sculpture garden is open from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight so that many people can enjoy these attractive displays at their leisure. You could easily pair a walk through this 11 acre whimsical oasis with a visit to the Walker Art Center and Cowles Conservatory which is housed on garden grounds. Take your time perusing through the 40 permanent sculptures on display not to mention the many temporary exhibits that come and go throughout the year. It's a definite must-see on any Minneapolis itinerary.
