Located in the downtown city area near the west bank of the Mississippi, the museum depicts the chronology of the flour milling industry and spawned the explosive growth of Minneapolis. For about fifty years, the Minneapolis area was the world leader in the production of flour. This history is brought to life with the various exhibits and the Flour Tower which sits at eight stories tall. The Gold Medal Flour sign is a great landmark of the area outside the museum.
For your touring pleasure, there is a café on site from which you can order a catered box lunch as well as coffee or snacks. There are even special tours you can take through the Washburn A Mill which was damaged by fire some years back. The exhibits here depict life as many people knew it during the height of the milling years. Closed on Mondays, you will find open hours 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays, except on Thursdays when they close at 9:00 p.m. On Sundays, they are open from 12 Noon to 5:00 p.m. Holidays will typically have different operating hours.
