For those interested in a very specific section of general history, geography and religious history, there may be not better stop in the upper Midwest than the Holy Land Exhibit, conveniently located in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The museum focuses on the history, geography and culture of what is now known as the Middle East, though in discussions among laymen, historians and religious scholars this area is sometimes called the Bible land or in this case, the Holy Land. At the core of the exhibit are numerous fascinating relics that have survived from centuries past. Many of the now-modern nations in this region have exhibits here as well. For example, Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon offer visitors a look at their history and culture. Iraq (long known as the general region of Mesopotamia) has an exhibit, as does Iran (for years called Persia). In addition, there are displays and historical documents from Turkey (Asia Minor), Cyprus, Egypt, Greece and Italy.
Located at 434 Ridgewood Avenue in Minneapolis, the Holy Land Exhibit features tours that last about 1.5 hours (sometimes up to 2 hours). These tours are conducted with a minimum of 10 people and a maximum of 40 people. For those planning to enjoy the Holy Land Exhibit in a group, at a particular time, it would be best to contact the museum to make sure that the exhibit is available and the staff can accommodate the group. Reservations are required. Admission charge is $3 for adults and $2 for children. Parking is free, though appointment visitors have preference. (612) 871-7444.
