First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN
Who knew that a real happening night club could be found in the not so big city lights of Minneapolis? First Avenue is a great spot on the music scene in the Twin Cities. It was once a bus depot and was converted ages ago into an excellent night spot. The huge barn like two story area is the perfect foil for many bands as it offers up some great acoustics and great vision lines, no matter where you are in the club.
On live band nights, expect First Avenue of Minneapolis, MN to be hopping. Therefore, you want to get there a bit early before the action starts so that you can nab a cool balcony table. Otherwise, it is standing room only in the place. You can expect a wide variety of music within First Avenue walls from country to punk to rock to reggae — not too much is taboo. On off-live band nights, they have a great DJ who gets the music pumping and people out on the dance floor.
This is Prince's stomping grounds so don't be surprised if the diminutive rocker shows up one night for an impromptu jam session. If you want to know who or what is playing at First Avenue, visit their website or give their box office a call for ticket prices and performance times. Otherwise, open hours are 5:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. every day. If music is just background for you, that's ok too. First Avenue has plenty of pool tables to keep you occupied as well as video games and pinball. The place is just a great place to kick back, unwind and shake off the stress of the day. And if good pumping music and some dancing doesn't do it, then nothing will.
