Depot Skating Rink in Minneapolis, MN
The Depot Skating Rink in Minneapolis, MN has been named in USA Today as one of the top ten best places in the United States to ice skate. It's located in the on225 Third Ave South and was once the Milwaukee Road Depot. It was an enormous structure that took up many city blocks. The facility was used a train shed until 1970.
When the last train left the train shed that year, it seemed that the building would be destroyed. The National Register of Historic Places saved the building from being wrecked and declared it a Minneapolis landmark.
As a landmark the Depot Skating Rink was used mostly for overflow parking. The company ARC Ice Sports and Entertainment Inc. from McLean, Virginia bought the old train shed and changed it into a large indoor skating rink.
In 1995 the Depot Skating Rink was born. At first it only had an indoor ice rink and a restaurant. Since then the facility and surrounding area has grown to include ships, more restaurants, a hotel, and a fully enclosed water park.
This indoor skating rink has floor-to-ceiling glass walls that let visitors get an impressive view of the downtown city skyline. The rink is available for public skating. It is also available for private rental for birthday parties, family reunions, school trips, holiday parties, employee appreciation parties and other such events. Group party packages are available with a full catering menu. Reservations are required for private functions, but also for private skating if the group is larger than 10 people.
The Depot Skating Rink is open various hours from Monday to Sunday. Call 612-375-1700 for times.
