As more and more people are turning towards religion, more and more churches are being built. However, there is one church that will never be forgotten; and that is the Basilica of St Mary; which is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
For many people, the Basilica of St Mary is just another ordinary church; however, that is not the case! The Basilica of St Mary is anything but that! In fact, it is nation's first grand basilica; and also the first basilica to be built in America. Because it took over 20 years to fully complete it is also known as one of the most grand beaux-arts churches. The church itself was/is made of white marble and is 278 feet long and 120 feet wide; while it also has 133 foot twin towers in the front. In fact, one of the towers is the home to a 3000 pound bell that of course can be heard from miles. Also, up over the altar there is a 250 foot dome; where the 56 rank pipe organ plays.
Because there is so much history behind the Basilica of St Mary, you are now able to have guided tours of the church; however, they are only given on Sundays. The best thing about the history is that the Basilica of St Mary is celebrating it centennial; it is now 100 years old! Along with being able to take guided tours, you may learn more about the basilica at any given time, as well! In fact, the basilica is one of the most known landmarks in Minneapolis!
