Wings Over Miami Museum in Miami, FL
The Wings Over Miami Museum is a non-profit corporation that flies classic and military aircraft as a tribute to the aviators and veterans who flew as civilians and for the military. It also gives displays and performances of their planes and aircraft for the public's entertainment as well as to educate the public as to the importance of these planes and the part they played in history.
The Museum stays in business through the help of volunteers and staff that is paid almost minimum wage. They also rely heavily on charities, donations of money, displays and equipment as well as sales from the museum's gift shop. The Wings Over Miami Museum is such an important part of the history of the aircraft. Many of the locals are more than happy to donate their time towards keeping the museum going.
Some of the aircraft that is available as photographs in the Wings Over Museum are Stearman PT-17, 1972 Nanchang CJ6A, Museum Hangar, PBY-5A "Super Cat", TBM 3, F-86F Saberjet, CJ-6 Flight, 1946 Fairchild 24R, 1968 L-29 Delphine and many more. One of the aircrafts that is very unique is the Gnat, which was used from 1964 through 1979 by the British Yellowjacks and Red Arrows aerobatic team. The Gnat can climb at the rate of 10,000 foot per minute as well as being able to roll as fast as 360 degrees per second.
People and spectators come from miles around to see these planes fly or just to look at the displays of the exhibits.
