The Rubell Family Collection in Miami, Florida is a collection of contemporary art. It is one of the largest found throughout the world. The library, which is a research driven library, is home to some 30,000 volumes of works. The library is exhibited in a converted 45,000 square foot space that is the former D.E.A confiscated goods warehouse.
The works within the collection range widely. Some date back to the 1960's while other pieces are very current. Visitors are welcome to visit the collection that the family has so proudly displayed. Guests have been welcomed to the location since 1996. Visiting often is encouraged as the displays will change seasonally. Some of the work found here includes artists such as Keith Haring, Maurizio Cattelan, Jeff Koons, David Salle, Gregor Schneider, Damien Hirst and Cindy Sherman, just to name a few.
The Rubell Family Collection continues to grow. Started in 1964 after Don and Mera were married, and later helped by their children, the collection offers a huge range of mediums, artists and styles. In addition to viewing these works, guests are able to enjoy the media room. There is also a bookstore located here, called Phaidon, as well as a gift shop, Cerealart. The beautiful Sculpture Garden is inviting and welcoming as well.
Visitors to the Rubell Family Collection will find them located on NW 29th Street. Visitors are welcome throughout the week and weekend, on a limited viewing schedule. The location is closed from June through November most years, though.
