The Miami Art Central in Miami, Florida is more commonly known by locals as MAC. It is a not for profit institution and is supported through donations, mostly. It provides education and instruction in a variety of art forms. The goal of the institution is to support the arts fully as well as to encourage art performance in a large scope. Both visual and performing arts are encouraged by the institution through the programs they offer. While all art is considered valuable, the goal here is to focus on the most contemporary of artists and mediums. The more unique and important culturally, the more likely it will be found here.
Various exhibitions are available to be viewed. The institution works to put on various performances seasonally. In addition, both film and video activities are available based on the schedule of events for the month. While providing this, the underlying goal of the Miami Art Central is to provide educational events for the citizens of the region.
Recently, the Miami Central Art group formed a partnership with the Miami Art Museum, MAM, and together they operate the institutions.
Past exhibits included Peter Friedl — Works, Tacita Dean — Film Works, Video: An Art, A History 1965-2005, and Anna Maria Maiolino — Territorries of Immanence.
Located on SW 57th Avenue, it is centrally located. The location is closed on Mondays during most of the year. A full schedule of events available is available on their website or by contacting the front office. The Miami Art Central is open year round, with varying hours of operation.
