Daniel Perez was a famous musician and his name was used to rename this theatre following his death. The theatre was previously known as the Hall Garden, but was subsequently changed by the State Government in the 1970s.
The building itself is modelled on a military National Guard Barracks, but now hosts musicians, artists, cinema and major theatrical productions. All year round there is a busy schedule of children's shows, festivals, films, conferences and even government meetings.
Although the theatre was originally opened in 1914, it was remodelled and reopened. The architecture is simple but attractive, and inviting. Part of the facility is now also a bookshop, so the theatre is really much more than that; a true centre for all manner of cultural exhibitions and art.
The capacity of the theatre holds 400 people and much of the architectural styling is taken from the Italians. There have been some very famous productions on the stage here, including a performance of The Chocolate Soldier in 1916.
The idea of the theatre owners and producers is to expose as many people as possible to the cultural heritage and offerings of the local companies, so the price of a ticket to attend the theatre is usually a very reasonable price. There are usually discounts available for children and the elderly too. There is much to see and do in Yacutun, but if you can spare the time to take in a show at the Teatro Daniel Ayala Perez, then you will not be disappointed, and you will cherish the memories of this very special place for years to come.
