The government's interest in art is largely what has fueled this new focus on Mexican artists and their craft. Fantastic artwork can be seen everywhere throughout Mérida. Fernando Castro Pacheco may be one of the most well known artists of the town; it is his murals which can currently be seen on the Palacio del Gobierno (Governor's Palace) walls. However, new artists are constantly being attracted to Mérida.
One of the best places to find traditional and not-so-traditional artwork is at the Galerias Mérida in Merida, MX. This contemporary and fine art gallery has been in business for several years but only recently moved their location in order to accommodate larger collections. Currently, the gallery features ongoing exhibits by Salvador Baeza, Liz Briceño, Jorge Casares, Eduardo Cervantes, Georgia Charuhas, Octavio Peniche, David Sierra, William Sievert, and Pamela Zilly.
Galerias Mérida in Merida, MX is open weekly from 10 AM to 6 PM, with the exception of Tuesday. Throughout the year, the gallery features special exhibits which are ordinarily available for viewing Tuesday through Thursday, 10 AM to noon and 3 PM to 5 PM. Many weekend nights special showings run from 8 PM to midnight and feature live musical entertainment. If you are an art lover, you won't want to miss a visit to this exciting art gallery.
