University of Memphis (UM) was founded in 1912 as West Tennessee State Normal School, and now has over 20,000 students enrolled in their programs. UM is located only 8 miles from the
Memphis International Airport (MEM) and the
Memphis Cook Convention Center. It's also home to the Institute of Egyptian Art and Architecture, which features the largest public collection of Egyptian antiquities in the South.
Memphis Tiger pride is obvious when you stroll through campus, you can buy their merchandise, or catch a sports game at the Billy J. Murphy Complex, formerly the Kennedy Sportsplex. This Complex is a sprawling 140 acres and is located just south of the main campus. The complex serves as the home of the Tiger football, baseball, soccer and track teams and offers workout facilities for all U of M sports. However, that's just one of their many sports facilities. Baseball games take place at the Nat Buring Stadium, football games at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, basketball games at the FedEx Forum, soccer games at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex, and many more. The campus is big and beautiful, one would have to see to believe.
