One of the largest automobile museums in North America, the Tupelo Automobile Museum opened on Pearl Harbor Day and was designated the official State of Mississippi automobile museum. The museum is home to more than 100 rare automobiles, most of which were part of the personal collection of founder Frank K. Spain.
The 120,000 square foot Tupelo Automobile Museum features state of the art automobile displays with interactive speakers detailing the history of each car. Open-viewing restoration bays, hundreds of antique automotive signs, an old garage replica and a gift shop which also sells models are also included. The collection is valued at more than $6 million and has cars belonging to a period of over 100 years ranging from an 1886 Benz, a Duesenberg and three Hispano Suizas to a Tucker, a '76 Lincoln previously owned by Elvis Presley and a never-driven 1994 Dodge Viper. Automobiles currently under restoration are added to the display area as they are completed.
The museum is open throughout the year apart from Mondays and certain National holidays. Timings for Tuesday to Saturday from March to October are10am to 6pm, whereas for November to February, the museum is open from 10am to 5pm. On Sundays, the museum is open from noon to 5pm. Admission fees are $10 for adults and$5 for children. There are discounts for groups and senior citizens. There is no entry fee for children under four years of age.
